Abstract


ABSTRACTThe increasing prevalence of chronic non-communicable diseases in developing countries is becoming a majorpublic health problem. Research studies and epidemiological data have shown that antioxidants such as carotenoids(beta carotene, lycopene, lutein, and zeaxanthin) contribute to prevent degenerative diseases, such ascoronary heart diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and several types of cancer. Secondary metabolite compounds are often produced only in certain tissues or organ, at specific developmentalstage and they are present in low concentrations. HPLC is a famous method can be used in analyzing the identificationand determination of the content organic and inorganic solutes by comparison of samples with standardschromatographed.This research aims to identify the beta carotene on the root, bark, leaf and fruit of Pandanusconoideus Lamk., and to determine the beta carotene content on chloroform extract of the root, bark, leaf andfruit. The method in analyzing the identification and determination of the content is HPLC analysis. The resultof HPLC analysis showed that beta carotene was found on the root, leaf and fruit except for the bark. The resultsshowed that the highest of beta carotene content was found on the fruit extract (7.28 μg/g), the leaf (2,37 μg/g),and root (1.24 μg/g), respectively.

 

ABSTRAKPeningkatan prevalensi penyakit kronis yang belum diketahui penyebabnya menjadi masalah utama bagi masyarakatdi negara berkembang. Data kajian hasil riset penyakit yang mewabah menunjukkan bahwa antioksidanseperti karotenoid (beta karoten, likopen, lutein, dan zeasantin) bermanfaat mencegah penyakit degeneratifseperti penyakit jantung koroner, kardiovaskuler, diabetes, hipertensi, obesitas dan beberapa macamkanker. Senyawa metabolit sekunder sering diproduksi hanya di bagian jaringan atau organ tertentu dari tumbuhanpada fase pertumbuhan tertentu dan dihasilkan dalam konsentrasi rendah. KCKT merupakan metodeyang terkenal dapat digunakan untuk menganalisis, identifikasi dan menetapkan kadar suatu zat dalamlarutan organik atau organik dengan membandingkan larutan standar yang digunakan dalam kromatografi.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi adanya beta karoten pada akar, batang, dan buah Pandanusconoideus Lamk. serta menetapkan kadar senyawa beta karoten dalam ekstrak kloroform organ tumbuhantersebut. Metode yang digunakan untuk menganalisis, identifikasi, dan penetapan kadar adalah KCKT. Hasilanalisis KCKT menunjukkan bahwa beta karoten dapat ditemukan pada akar, daun, dan buah P. conoideus,namun tidak terdapat pada organ batang. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kadar beta karoten tertinggi terdapatpada ekstrak buah (7,28 μg/g) P. conoideus diikuti berturut-turut pada daun (2,37 μg/g) dan akar (1,24 μg/g).Kata kunci: beta karoten, Pandanus conoideus Lamk., KCKT
