POTENCY OF KEPEL (STELECHOCARPUS BURAHOL) AS CYCLOOXIGENASE-2 INHIBITOR

Abstract


Kepel (Stelechocarpus burahol (Blume) Hook & Thomson) merupakan salah satu tanaman berbuah asli Indonesia yang dilaporkan memiliki aktivitas anti asam urat. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam rangka menyediakan data ilmiah terkait aktivitas anti asam urat melalui skrining aktivitas penghambatan siklooksigenase (COX-2) ekstrak daun dan buah kepel. Kepel diambil dari beberapa daerah yaitu Karanganyar, Nusa kambangan, Cilacap dan Yogyakarta. Daun kepel diekstraksi dengan metanol dan difraksinasi menggunakan etil asetat dan air, sementara buah diekstraksi dengan heksan selanjutnya residu yang dihasilkan diekstraksi lebih lanjut menggunakan etil asetat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bhwa ekstrak air dan metanol daun kepel serta ekstrak air buah kepel memiliki aktivitas penghambatan COX-2 sebesar 51%. Ekstrak heksan dan etil asetat buah kepel serta ekstrak etil asetat daun kepel hanya menunjukkan aktivitas penghamabtaan sebesar 20%.

Abstract

Kepel (Stelechocatpus burabol (Blume) Hook & Thornson), one of fruit tree originally found in Indonesia, reported has anti-gout activity. In order to give more scientific data on anti-gout activity, we screened the cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitor activities of leaves and fruits extracts of Kepel. Kepel was collected from Karang Anyar, Nusa Kambangan, and Cilacap, Central Java, and also from Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Kepelleaves were extraeted with methanol and fractionated with ethyl acetate and water, while the fruits were extraeted with hexane and the residue was extraeted with ethyl acetic and water. The results showed that water extracts and methanol extracts of Kepelleaves and water extraet of Kepel fruits gave inhibitory activities about 51%. The fruits hexane and ethyl acetate extracts of Kepelleaves had only about 20% inhibitory activity.
