ADAPTASI EMPAT NOMOR HARAPAN MENTHA (Mentha arvensis L.) DI KP CICURUG

Abstract

Mint (Mentha arvensis L.) is one of the subtropic annual herbs as a source  of cormint and menthol oil. This oils have been widely used as raw material in pharmaceutical, beverage, food and aromatherapy industry. To meet the market demand, Indonesia is still importing cormint oil of 82,2 ton per year and menthol  oil 684,1 ton per year. Since this plants has been promising to cultivate, Balittro has devel oped four promising varieties of mint.1bose varieties are Mear 0010, Mear 0011, Mear 0012 dan Mear 0013. This study was aimed to determine the adaptation of four varieties of mint. The research was conducted at Cicurug Research Station at 550 m above sea level. The experimental design used was randomized complete block design that was arranged factorially with six replications. The parameters observed were the growth, herbs production, oil content, and the total amount of menthol. Results showed that the highest plants was indicated by Mear 0011 (66.56 cm) and the shortest was seen on Mear 0013 (43.05 cm), the largest diameter and the highest number of branches were also shown by Mear 0011. The longest node was the Mear 0010 (4.28 cm) and the shortest node was the Mear 0013. The longest Stolon was Mear 0010 (133.30 cm), and the largest Stolon was Mear 0011 (7.94), the number of leaves and the longest internode were also owned by Mear 0011 in the amount of 892.70 and 4.42 cm. Related to the production of herbs, fresh weight and dry weight, Mear 0011 yielded the heaviest fresh weight (113.30 g/plant), and the heaviest dry weight (35.83 g/plant). However, the production of oil was only 64.5 kg/Ha/year. This was lower that the oil production of Mear 0012 (79,5 kg/Ha/year). The higher levels of menthol content was also found on Mear 0011 (68.88%), but the oil level was not significantlly different from three other mint. This research showed that the quality of Mentha oil derived from M. arvensis (cornmint oil) meet the quality standards required by EOA especially to Mear 0010, 0011 and 0012.
